Flying to Phuket: where a delay pays and where it does not

To see new-build apartments in Phuket you can fly direct from Moscow or connect in Dubai or Doha. For compensation these are three different stories, and in two of them AirHelp cannot help. Here is where the money is real and who can get it.

Emirates and Qatar Airways are not EU airlines, so Regulation 261/2004 does not cover their arrivals into the EU. Only a trip that starts in the EU is protected.

Trips from Europe via Doha or Dubai

If you bought a single ticket, say Vienna to Doha to Phuket, the EU regulation covers the whole trip because it began at an EU airport. Even if the delay hit the Doha to Phuket leg and you missed your connection, what counts is how late you reached Phuket.

Late arrival in PhuketUnder EU261, trip over 3,500 km
3 to 4 hours€300
4 hours or more€600
under 3 hoursno compensation

All of this assumes one booking: with two separate tickets the answer may differ. As always, there is no compensation for extraordinary circumstances, and payment is not guaranteed.

Flying home from Phuket: Thai Regulation 101

Thailand's Civil Aviation Board Regulation No 101 has been in force since 20.05.2025. It covers domestic flights and international departures from Thailand, on Thai and foreign airlines. It does not cover flights into Thailand from abroad.

You will have to claim these from the airline yourself: AirHelp says it does not currently handle Thai claims.

Flights from Moscow: a double no

Moscow to Phuket has no EU261, and Thai rules do not cover flights into Thailand. On the way back Thai rules apply, but not through AirHelp. AirHelp+ insurance payouts also exclude flights to and from Russia. We do not offer AirHelp for these flights.
