First check who operates the flight
What matters is the "operated by" line on your ticket, not the logo of the site you bought it on. It decides whether EU Regulation 261/2004 covers your flight to Paris.
| Direction | Airline | EU261 |
|---|---|---|
| Paris to Yerevan | any | yes, departs from the EU |
| Yerevan to Paris | EU carrier, e.g. Air France | yes, arrives in the EU on an EU carrier |
| Yerevan to Paris | Armenian or other non-EU | no |
One caveat for the Yerevan leg: EU rules do not apply if you already received compensation, rerouting or assistance for the same trip under the law of the departure country.

Why 3,410 km matters
By our rough great-circle estimate the route is under 3,500 km, so arriving 3 or more hours late means €400. The margin is only about 90 km, so here are both scales:
| If the distance is | 3-4 hours late | 4+ hours late |
|---|---|---|
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | €400 | €400 |
| over 3,500 km | €300 | €600 |
The exact distance for your flight will be set by the airline or whoever handles your claim. We give €400 as the expected amount, not a promise.
When you get less or nothing
- If the airline rerouted you and you arrived within the thresholds, the payout may be cut by 50%.
- Extraordinary circumstances: air traffic control decisions, political instability, bad weather, security risks. Then there is no compensation.
- Most technical faults and strikes by the airline's own staff do not count. The airline has to prove its case.
- The delay is measured at arrival at your final destination. Under 3 hours late means no compensation.
Deadlines and claiming
- The regulation sets no court deadline; national law does. According to AirHelp, in France it is 5 years.
- Keep your boarding pass, booking and receipts if you paid for food or a hotel while waiting.
- You can claim yourself or through AirHelp. AirHelp charges 35% of the compensation including VAT, only if you get paid, plus 15% if court action is needed.
- Under European regulations AirHelp pays out in euros. Payment is not guaranteed either way.
