When to buy

You must activate a Japan eSIM within 90 days of purchase, not 180 as with Armenia. If you booked flights six months out, hold off on the eSIM. The 30-day period starts when you connect.

On top-ups, Yesim's Japan page contradicts itself: the table says unavailable, while the top-up block says it happens automatically with an active subscription. It is safer to assume you cannot add data and buy with headroom.

Which plan for your trip

A few days

1 GB costs $4.44. The site calculator also lists a 1-day plan for $4.20 without stating the data amount, so check its terms.

One or two weeks

5 GB for $10.56 is the best deal relative to Armenia; 10 GB for $19.20 if you use a lot of video.

Working from a laptop

Hotspot is available. For a month of tethering, look at 20 or 30 GB.
